Making a Fantastic Electric Car |
We actually converted our own 1995 Toyota Corolla which only costs five hundred dollars and completed it with just the help from family members. That was a really fun family project we started out that later on draw the cooperation of everybody in the house.
We actually started out with a detailed plan on how to execute the vehicle conversion into electric. We pointed out which parts needed to be removed and what materials and parts that are needed to be installed. For this purpose one may avail of online kits that are specifying the ideal type of car to convert. However, to avoid further expense, one may just proceed with the help of someone who have a working knowledge on this project.
• Firstly, we selected a viable working area for the project, for privacy and to avoid disturbance from the crowding onlookers.
• Next, we set up the tool rack containing all the wrenches, ranges, drills and everything else needed in the project.
• The plan is to pull out the internal combustion engine and install in its place a large DC motor (9 inches or maybe larger) and a new battery. AC motor may also be used but we pursued with the DC due to cost advantage and the ease in mounting in the car.
• The first major work is the removal of the engine. We may solicit the help of a mechanic or avail of an engine hoist for rent just to pull the engine out.
• After removing the engine, comes next is the mounting of the motor and battery. Here we put up some mounting works to hold and fix the motor and battery in place.
The best car choice for conversion is the standard transmission cars over the automatic cars which cannot be converted into electric. Anyway, once the car is already converted, it will work like an automatic car. You will just put to a gear and it goes without need for gear shifting. Upon starting an electric car it runs to a speed of 50 to 90 miles an hour for and covers a distance of about 100 miles per charging. With the current high prices for gas, it is about time that you consider converting your car to electric cars.
